Abstract

Leg ulcers are usually caused by venous failure, arterial pathology or diabetes. However, there are many other causes clinicians may face that must be known. A serie of 326 patients carriers of leg ulcer and treated in different health units is analised. All of them underwent arterial or venous Doppler or both at admission, depending on clinical, general and ulcer liquid examination. According to both history and physical examination, some patients were submitted to electric tests, search of hyperclotted status, mycologic analysis and ulcer biopsy. A small percentage of patients (6,7%) showed an etiologogic range including: skin carcinoma, hyperclotted status, and mycologic infections among other causes. The study intends to highlight the importance of clinical and paraclinical assessment of carriers of leg ulcer in order to diminish morbility, vital risk, and costs of excessively long treatments.
